But We Have Always Taught This

One of the definitions of philosophy is:
b : a search for a general understanding of values and reality by chiefly speculative rather than observational means
c : an analysis of the grounds of and concepts expressing fundamental beliefs

The definition of traditions includes:
1 a : an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (as a religious practice or a social custom)
b : a belief or story or a body of beliefs or stories relating to the past that are commonly accepted as historical though not verifiable

Paul writes that we no longer live by either of these guide rules, but rather according to Christ (Colossians 2:8). There are certain religions that teach the traditions of men are equal to the word of God. So that if the Bible does not specifically address an issue the accepted tradition is to be the guide post. Each person is then judged by the tradition. But Paul writes that traditions and philosophies may cheat us from our freedoms in Christ.
